Operations & Maintenance (SF.IS.OperationsAndMaintenance) refers to costs of operating and maintaining utility facilities and distribution networks, other than direct costs of goods and services sold. It is classified as an operating expense.
Operations & Maintenance (SF.IS.OperationsAndMaintenance) includes:
- Operation and maintenance of power generating plants and power transmission grids
- Operation and maintenance of natural gas storage facilities and distribution networks
- Operation and maintenance of water facilities and distribution networks
- Operation and maintenance of desalination plants
- Operation and maintenance of heating and steam facilities and distribution networks
- All expenses incurred in operating and maintaining utility facilities and distribution networks, if operation and maintenance costs are not presented separately from the cost of goods sold
- Cost of repair/maintenance of vehicles for power distributions
Operations & Maintenance (SF.IS.OperationsAndMaintenance) does not include:
- Cost of electric power purchased for resale by a utility company (classified as Purchased Power (SF.IS.PurchasedPower)
- Cost of natural gas purchased for resale by a gas utility company (classified as Fuel Purchased for Resale (SF.IS.FuelPurchasedforResale)
- Cost of fuel, gas and power used for generating electricity and the distribution of natural gas, water, heat or steam, reported by utility companies (classified as Fuel Expense (SF.IS.FuelExpense)
- The indirect costs related to the operation and maintenance of utility facilities and distribution networks(classified as Operations & Maintenance (SF.IS.OperationsAndMaintenance)
- Depreciation of power plants, natural gas storage facilities, water and heating plants, and transmission/distribution facilities reported by utility companies (classified as Depreciation (SF.IS.DepreciationExp)
- Depreciation of nuclear fuel (classified as Depreciation (SF.IS.DepreciationExp)
