Equity Data Terminal

New Features:

  • A New Financial Model: with more useful fields, detailed data, and a fresh new user-friendly design:
    • Richer data: Our financial model now has all the detailed steps from top to bottom, and makes a clear distinction between As Reported and Adjusted figures with all the adjustments from one to the other. We still seamlessly integrate historical period and future period data in one single view.
    • New design: Our financial model also benefits from a smoother design and better organization of all the pages of the Equity Data Terminal.
    • New features: Valuation and Price Target tools — we are introducing a new powerful feature to easily analyze the fair value of a stock and define a price target. The new feature also leverages on the pre-existing ability to build your own forecasts away from consensus.
    • Available everywhere: Fields from the new model are also available on Screener, Plotter and Excel plugin.
  • ETFs are making their way to Sentieo: We have kicked-off the support for ETFs in Sentieo by adding more than 500 ETFs to our database.
  • The Screener roll-out continues, with several new features added this month: you can now share with peers your Screens and Views.

A More Detailed Financial Model:

We have added the following series to the Income statement model. It is therefore now possible to start from Revenue and walk your way down to EPS; all the key items in the Income Statement are now there. We are also making a clearer distinction between “As Reported” figures, and “Adjusted” figures, with the breakdown of all the non-cash and non-recurring items to go from one to the other. All the new series are also immediately available on Plotter, Screener, and the Excel plugin:

  • R&D
  • SG&A
  • Other non-recurring operating expenses (with the detailed breakdown under an accordion).
  • Other recurring operating expenses (with the detailed breakdown under an accordion)
  • Total Operating expenses – As Reported
  • Total Operating expenses – Adjusted
  • EBIT – As Reported
  • EBIT – Adjusted
  • EBITDA – As Reported
  • EBITDA – Adjusted
  • Profit Before Tax – As Reported
  • Profit Before Tax – Adjusted
  • Operating results attributable to non-common shareholders
  • Net Income – As reported
  • Total Adjustments to Net Income to go from As Reported to Adjusted (with the detailed breakdown under an accordion)
  • Net Income – Adjusted
  • EPS – Basic
  • EPS – Diluted
  • EPS – Diluted – Adjusted
  • Weighted Average Number of Shares – Basic
  • Weighted Average Number of Shares – Adjusted

An Improved and More Detailed Market Cap Methodology

Sentieo has improved its market cap methodology, which adds a layer of transparency that is especially useful for multi-share class companies. In the example below, for GOOGL, each of the share class market caps is calculated separately and then rolls up into the full company market cap.

Growth Metrics

Growth rates have been added to the main stages of the Income Statement to help further evaluate the ongoing performance of companies:

  • y/y growth
  • 2y growth stack
  • 3yr CAGR
  • 5yr CAGR
  • 10y CAGR

Margin Expansion Measurements

Likewise, margin expansion measurements have been added to the main profit stages of the Income Statement:

  • year over year change in margin, measured in basis points
  • 2y change in margin, measured in basis points
  • 1y incremental margin (i.e.; how much extra profit the difference in revenue has generated; it’s basically a measure of profit margin elasticity which is looked at closely in some industries).
  • 2y incremental margin.

Both growth rates and margin measurements automatically update as you build new scenarios.

Last Twelve Month Data

Sentieo now shows the sum of the last reported 12 months in the far right column:

More Intuitive Organization of Equity Data Terminal

Previously, you had to choose a source (Sentieo, Thomson Reuters, SEC/XBRL), then look for which financial statement item they required.

We have now grouped all the financial data sources into a more intuitive, single menu. First you decide which financial statement item you want to research. Then you can select from all available sources, such as Sentieo’s model, Thomson Reuters, and SEC/XBRL.

Valuation & Price Target Tool

The new Valuation & Price Target tool takes target price setting to a new level of simplicity.

Steps:

    • Enter the price you think is fair for any of the forward years, and Sentieo updates the valuation multiples. You can also enter what you think is a fair multiple for any of the forward years or for any of the forward multiple metrics, and it will update all the other valuation multiples and the price target accordingly.
    • Both work seamlessly on the same page; you can jump from one method to the other.

Excel Plugin

New

  • RMS Uploader v1.0: Metrics from Sentieo Research Management System in Notebook can now be managed from Excel. You can download all the thesis data from any number of stocks that you and your colleagues have created and edit them directly from Excel. You can also start the coverage of a stock directly from Excel, and upload your models to be attached to your notes in Notebook.
  • Currency conversion: It is now possible to request the data in a different currency by adding a simple optional parameter at the end of the excel plugin syntax. The data point will automatically be converted to the chosen currency at the average exchange rate over the period(s) requested. At the moment, USD, GBP and EUR are available, more currencies will be added at a later time (Fundamental Financials series only).

  • Existing series which have changed: In an effort to harmonize the names of our series in Excel, the following series have been retired or are now attached to a different series.
    • “ebit” now points to EBIT – As Reported, as opposed to Adjusted EBIT previously. For Adjusted EBIT, please use “ebit_adj”.
    • “ebitda” now points to EBITDA – As Reported, which was Adjusted EBITDA previously. For Adjusted EBITDA, please use “ebitda_adj”.
    • “disc_op” is now “disc_op_exp”

    • “Net_inc_gaap” has been retired. Please use instead “net_inc”
    • “eps_gaap” has been retired. Please use instead “deps”
    • “eps_adj” has been retired. Please use instead “deps_adj”
    • “div” now points to the total Dividend. For dividend per share, please use “div_per_share”
    • “ebit_margin” now points to the EBIT (As Reported) margin. For adjusted EBIT margin, please use “ebit_adj_margin”

  • Change in behavior of Estimate History series: Estimate History series now by default return only the days where the consensus has changed. Before, it returned every day including weekends.

If you would like to reproduce the old default behavior, you should use our optional day filler as in the example below:

=snt(“aapl”,”revenue_est”,”01/01/2017”,today(),”days=all”,”fill=prev”)

If you would like to reproduce a series for trading days only, which will therefore match the daily values of the stock price, you can use the date filler option as per below:

=snt(“aapl”,”revenue_est”,”01/01/2017”,today(),”days=Trading”,”fill=prev”)
